Spend St. Patrick’s Day in New York This Year

Aside from Dublin, New York is probably the best destination for the St. Patrick’s Day vacation. Plus, it offers plenty more budget options. The city is filled with cheap hotels and hostels. With a bit of research you can even find cheap hotels in Manhattan . And with three airports serving the Big Apple, finding cheap flights to New York has never been a problem.

Parades, pubs, green beer floating… you’ll find them all in New York. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the considered the most popular parade in New York. It goes up 5th Avenue from 44th to 86th Streets and each year it gathers over 150,000 marchers.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. on 5th Avenue around 44th Street. If you want to see the parade but avoid the crowds, the upper steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art offer excellent views of the marchers. The parade ends at 86th Street, around 2 or 3 p.m.

Along with checking out the web for St. Patrick’s Day travel deals , don’t forget to look up some Irish Pubs in New York City, as well. McSorley’s is the oldest pub in operation (since 1854) and only serves two types of beer – their own light and dark ales. Dempsey’s Pub is located in East Village and offers live Irish music on Tuesday nights. Plus, you can play darts and pool here. PJ Carney’s , located close to Central Park, claims to be New York’s friendliest Irish pub.

Regardless of where you choose to party, remember to drink in moderation; there’s no need for a hangover the next day.
