New York Party Hostels: Where to get down and dirty on the cheap in NYC

We all known that New York is the city that never sleeps, so it’s no wonder that many travelers coming to the Big Apple are looking to party well into the wee morning hours (I mean, where else in the U.S. are bars open until 4 am?) As a major travel destination for all kinds of travelers, it is also not surprising that there are plenty of New York hostels, which provide affordable (albeit often cramped) lodgings for those travelers on a tight budget—and since most travelers on a tight budget are young and often the same ones looking to get down and dirty and enjoy a little NYC nightlife it is no stretch of the imagination that there are several great party hostels in New York. Here is rundown on some of the best places where you can get boozy with a group of international party lovers in between snapping photos of the Empire State Building and buying souvenirs in Times Square.

Jazz on the Park

Located just a stone’s throw from Columbia’s campus on the Upper West Side, Jazz on the Park Hostel is located is perfectly situated in the heart of a great and fun Manhattan neighbor. Close to many favorite Columbia student hang-outs (and even THE restaurant from Seinfeld), Jazz on the Park is the flagship and largest hostel of the Jazz Hostels family (there are 4 Jazz sister hostels in New York called Jazz on the City, Jazz on the the Town, Jazz on Lenox and Jazz on the Villa). While this hostel is certainly located in a convenient and fun NYC neighborhood, Jazz on the Park has gained a reputation mostly for its funky coffee bar, pub crawls and summer BBQ parties. Because of this hostels location right on the edge of Central Park, guests also have easy access to the park and Museum Mile across the green space. If you are looking for a hostel with a lot of character, a great hang out space, convenient location and fun crowd, then Jazz on the Park is probably your best bet.

ALSO CHECK OUT: Jazz on the City, Jazz on Lenox, Jazz on the Town and Jazz on the Villa hostels in New York. Same great atmosphere, different locations (Jazz on the Villa even comes complete with warp-around porch and basketball court)

New York Loft Hostel

If you are looking to live like a hipster king or queen, then your palace should certainly be the new New York Loft Hostel located in Hipsterville, USA (aka Willamsburg, Brooklyn). Although a short subway ride away from Manhattan, this hostel is located in a an up and coming neighborhood in Brooklyn and is super close to many of the bars and restaurants along Bedford Avenue. This 1912 original loft building is a great place to get down with your hipster friends—not only does this hostel boast a great 2,000 square foot garden courtyard where travelers can hang out, it also has a pool and hot tub (and what spells party better than a hot tub?) as well as a great BBQ area for grilling and drinking in the summer months. Because this hostel is also practically brand-spanking-new, the facilities are in great shape. Plus, while you may have to share a bathroom with 12 others, you’ll make some great new friends, spend a lot less money and hopefully have a great time in this new Brooklyn hotspot.

Times Square Dream Hostel

As the name of this hostel may indicate, the best part of the Times Square Dream hostel is its amazing location in the heart of midtown Manhattan just steps from the bustling and exciting Times Square, 5th Avenue, Theatre district and more. Paul the manager of this hostel is notoriously friendly and helpful to guests—helping them find everything from the best bars to hit to how to navigate New York City. While there may not be a fun bar to kick back at like in the various Jazz hostels in the city, whatever the Times Square Dream Hostel lacks in on-site activity is made up for by a fantastic location. Plus, the guests who tend to stay here are notoriously social, young, friendly and outgoing. With so many entertainment options and easy access to the subway, as well as a helpful guy who will tell you where to go and other willing travelers who may just want to pub crawl with you, you really can’t go wrong by staying in this hostel. An added bonus? Wi-fi is free and the beds are comfy!

Gershwin Hotel and Hostel

Located in the heart of Manhattan in the Flatiron district and just around the corner from the Empire State building is the avant-garde decorated Gershwin Hotel and Hostel.
